Yee I-Lann

(born 1971, Sabah)

Yee I-Lann was selected for the 3rd Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art in Brisbane, Australia in 1999. She received her BA in Visual Arts from the University of South Australia, Adelaide and studied painting at Central St. Martins School of Arts in London.

She is also recognised for her work on film and video. Anyone familiar with I-Lann's work will know that the stamp she leaves on her art is not so much stylistic as an impression of her self.

Her willingness to bare her inner life in the text and images she concocts and manipulates combines with a breathtaking agility with a plethora of 'found' and traditional media to create multiple interpretive layers that relay the process of intellectual and emotional response to images and ideas.

Upbeat, tongue-in-cheek and quirky, her work is an honest commentary on popular culture and local urban life.
